Weebly is a site that let´s you create your own ´Weebly´ or website under their name. For my minor technology enhanced learning we had to create a blog on Weebly.
Advantages
- It's free, so anyone in your class could create a site and make a blog or share their interests.
- It's easy. While in english, every button has it's pictogram so discovering what every word or button does will be quite easy for curious young pupils.
- As they say themselves, 'Start something'. You can do pretty much whatever you want with Weebly.
- If you have very active parents Weebly is a great way of communicating between class and parents. Fun and easy way to show people what your class is doing or did.
Disadvantages
- A small disadvantage, but it's in English. It would be easier if it was in Dutch but eventually they will figure out how everything works.
- It's very demotivating if no one visits your Weebly. Even our minor had to make an agreement that we would comment on each others' blogs so keep everything going smooth.
Possibilities
Create a blog, create a project and let your pupils share the proces with their other pupils and parents on Weebly, start a class-Weebly and let a pupil post a blog message every week, let your pupils earn something and set up a small store with your class. Enough you could do with this easy, free and fun tool.
TPACK
Content Knowledge: my favorites are: improving writing correctly by creating an digital news agency, improving parent involvement by letting your pupils post what they did that day, week or project. Or to show their own development over a certain course by letting them post about what they've learnt or like.
Technological Knowledge: each student, class or teacher can create their own Weebly at Weebly.com.
Pedagogical Knowledge: if you want to use Weebly from a class perspective you can let pupils write something down, which you can check for correct grammar, which they can post after you've done that. If you want pupils to learn from their mistakes, it might be an idea to don't check them on grammar.
